Reading on the article featured on 'race-ambiguous' people's comments on 1 Malaysia inspired me to babble this out. In roman numbers it shall be :
(i) It's true that this '1 Malaysia' concept is actually nothing new since we've heard of being told to unite many times and only now has it been 'launched' as a campaign officially. We've come such a long way that it SHOULD be embedded in our hearts and minds that we are united.
Unfortunately, you can still see DISCRIMINATION and POLARIZATION.
(ii) I totally agree that there eventhough UNITY is being stressed, yet there is still this ethno-centric view that the Malays are dominant group and their rights must be protected, and non-Malays are forever outsiders.
How in the world do you expect people to unite when there's this invisible veil separating the dominant and non-dominant group of people?
(iii) For this concept to really work, I give my full support for these whole RACE-POLITICS thingy to be put on halt right this instance. It's tiring and annoying simultaneously, really.
Which is why I've never bother much about politics. Thinking of it makes me want to roll my eyes and make faces.
(iv) We even grew up with application forms asking us to tick our race. We should STOP painting negative scratches on other races' images.
Stop thinking about 'us' and 'them' and start focusing on 'we', 'our' and 'Malaysians'. No one should be made uncomfortable in their own home.
(iv) I somehow believe that this unity concept will never be a good go for as long as this 'MALAY RIGHTS' thingy exists. I'd rather it be replaced with 'HUMAN RIGHTS' instead of 'MALAY RIGHTS'. If you're good and worth for what's it worth, you have got nothing to worry baby!
So unless we get rid of this bumiputera status, or reform our views and politic rights, we will never achieve unity.
(v) Since it's Malaysia's birthday, and it's cruel to not wish Happy Birthday, I'd like to include as well of how Malaysians should have more voice, STAND UP and SPEAK UP for your own rights, be respected and be heard. Words to public, do not discriminate and do see that we are one and the same. Regardless of what skin color you may have.
And oh, also, if only the government could uphold the parliamentary democracy.
